Hello! I am Jack Brooks, a retired professional educator, with over 35 years experience in North Carolina schools. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Appalachian State University. I also hold a Masters Degree in Public School Administration from ASU. My work experience includes teaching math, physics, physical science, and chemistry. I also coached multiple sports, including almost 20 years in high school wrestling. My admin career included principalships at Kinston High School (9-12), Highlands School(k-12), and Mitchell High School(9-12). After retirement, interim jobs in admin included the Director of Exceptional Children in Mitchell County, Interim Admin in Mitchell County, Interim Admin in Greene County, and Interim Assistant Superintendent in Gaston County. I am currently involved with the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching in their Beginning Teacher of the Year and Vocational Teacher of the year programs. As a young man I chose to pursue my lifelong passion to be in the service of young people to share my love for learning. I have been so blessed working with thousands of young men and women over the past 45 years and look forward to serving more!
In addition to my career in education, I have been an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, canoeing, hiking, camping, and scuba diving. I play multiple stringed and woodwind instruments. In my spare time I love to build things, from cabinetry to homes, from kayaks to dulcimers, and from docks to trails. I have been blessed with “can do “.
My wife of 44 years, Dr. Rebecca Brooks, and I live in Craven County, and attend Broad Creek Christian Church where we are active in teaching and music ministries. I am most fully blessed when I can be of service to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, so that any talent I may have may be used to glorify Him!
Hi! Thank you for the opportunity to serve. My name is Sharon French. I was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in a military family, which meant we moved often. I have lived in many places, but North Carolina has been my home for most of my adult life. I married my high‑school sweetheart, and this year we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. We live in Aurora and are blessed with three wonderful children and three beautiful granddaughters.
I have been involved in education since 1988, teaching in both public and private schools, and I was a homeschool mom for 13 years.
I am honored to serve as secretary on your first governing board.
